Costumer Complaints from Unsuspecting Victims

American Poets Society -- (Poetryamerica dot com)

Please do not confuse them with the prestigious Academy of American Poets.

Sender's Name: Mikail

Message: Dear Sir / Madam;

I am writing to notify you that I have been scammed by American Poets Society with their bogus publication of a Poetry Anthology book.

Therefore; I would like to file a complaint against to the American Poets Society due to following reasons;

a) On the date of May 4th 2004 with a registered mail I have sent; May 4th 2004 dated Money Order as the sum of $47.75 USD addressed to American Poets Society; 600 Reisterstown Road Suite 200G, Baltimore, MD 21208 this was the full price of the bogus book of American Poets Society. This book would have include one of the first poem that I wrote named "For you" in it.

b) My bank has verified that the Money Order that I have sent as the fee for this Non existing Anthology book has been cashed out on the date of June 4th 2004 by American Poets Society.

c) On December 2004 I have made a phone conversation with one of the representative of American Poets Society regarding the fee that I have paid to them for an anthology book that I have still did not receive it. The representative has told me that I will be receiving the Anthology book in 4 weeks.

d) The way representative's) talk and answer and direct the phone calls made me come to conclusion that the book and their work is complete bogus and American Poets Society is trying to win by the draining patience by playing against me with time. But I did not forget about it or quit I am still after my right / after my money.

e) I also had several correspondences with American Poets Society between the dates of July 2004 and December 2004 and each time the representative has told me that I will be receiving the book in four weeks. But I have never received it.

f) I do have saved all the correspondences that I have mentioned above regarding American Poets Society as proofs in my email box and letters that I had.

g) Since July 2004 despite of several unsuccessful attempts to get them send the anthology book and eventually, I decided and wrote couple of emails correspondences asking them for full refund of my money did not work and I do not believe that the correspondences and telephone conversations will ever work.

h) Due to the wild goose and very low quality of service, I strongly believe that the anthology book that they got paid for is a bogus.

According to the reasons that I have submitted above; I am demanding from American Poets Society the full refund of ($47.75 USD plus $7.80 USD postage) fee that I have paid to American Poets Society and

I am asking you kindly to assist me as soon as possible to protect my rights and bring the justice upon the responsible people(s) whom involved in this despicable crime.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Message: Hi, In March of 2004, I submitted a poem to American Poets Society. It was supposed to go into type in June of 2004. At that time I purchased two books, one for my father and one for myself. The poem I wrote was about my mother's journey to heaven when she died., so it meant a lot to me. Then I had two other poems approved for publishing by them. I have never received any of the four books ordered from the American Poets Society. I have phoned them and only get a recording. I have emailed them, with no response, and I have faxed messages to them. They seem to have themselves totally blocked in to where we cannot get to talk to anyone. There is one email to this site about American Poets Society and I am wondering if there are any more people having this problem with American Poets Society. Thanks for this forum. Merriam Burke

Dear Rose,

I am in tears right now. My father was so delighted about my poem being printed, especially since it was about my mother. That poem was the first one I had ever written and it started my poetry writing. If it were any other poem but this one, it wouldn't hurt so much. Now I have to tell my father that it was a scam. Rose, can you tell me how American Poet's Society and International Library of Poetry are connected? I am considering hiring a lawyer. Thank you so much for letting me know. Please share this with any way you see fit. May God Bless, Merriam

Message: I recently sent in a poem to poetryamerica .com just to see if my poem was worth recognition. after recieving a letter saying my poem had been chosen for an anthology, i was excited, but needed nothing more than that recognition. My girlfriend and parents however wanted to order the anthology so we sent in money. Soon after, I saw online that poetryamerica.com was a scam. i was so angry and wrote to my local congressman and newspapers to put the word out, but have yet to recieve any response from them. BE CAREFUL. You may really be talented, but double check your sources and make sure this does not happen to you.

I am writing to warn all the people who read this that if you get a letter from the American Poets Society (APS), DO NOT send them a check/money order. I received a letter requesting permission to print my poem in the Anthology book, or for them to place it on a plaque for me to keep. I am 14. My grandmother sent a check for $57.75 on Feb. 18, 2005. I am writing this on July 8, 2005. I have yet to receive a plaque. They send me letters without telephone or fax numbers, and/or e-mail addresses. Please do not let them deceive you as they have so many others.

I have purchased three poetry books from Poets society and neither my family nor I have yet to receive any of them, I was notified that they where to go to press and that it would take approximately 4 months yet here I am over eight months later with none of the poetry books i had ordered and purchased. I feel not only let down, but also upset at the fact that I spent approximately $150.00 on three so called poetry books, and I have yet to see them.

In February of 2003, I received a letter from American Poet Society, stating that my poem had been chosen for publication. Included was a copy of my poem for review, as well as a request for permission to publish my poem. Folded inside the letter was an order form to, not only purchase copies of the book, but to purchase other "exciting things" as well--including a "value deal" on the purchase of more then one book. On August 25, 2003, I sent a check of $67.50 to American Poet Society--the purchase price of two books. My hope was to give the books as gift for Christmas. Today is August 29, 2005, and all I have to show for this purchase, is a cancelled check and an empty mail box.

American Poets Society Scammed me. I wrote a poem online and sent it to them. I received a letter telling me that my poem was going to be included in the book and that I could purchase this book ISBN 0-974342971 Expressions" for 57.75. I sent my credit card # and they charged me right away but I never received the book. I called the number listed on the letter and an answering machine answers that indicates they are American Poets Society. I then did a reverse phone number check on the white pages and the address I show for them is 20 Estates Ct. Apt 6212 Pikesville, MD 21208. The phone # is 410-602-0384. I am livid because when I called the first time, someone did answer and told me the book would be sent to me Spring 2005. Like I said, I never received it. I am going to report them to the better business bureau and am going to call CNN to warn consumers about this issue because I am not the only one that was scammed... Elizabeth Castaneda

I too have been scammed by American poet society, I received a letter back in June 2004, stating I would be published in the book "Reflections". I sent $103 dollars ( I bought a few copies), it was my first publication. I have not received a phone call back after several attempts, or my books. i have since hired a lawyer and intend to sue not only for my money back but also personal damages. So if you work with or are part of this cruel scam, Watch out! You'll be wishing you published my poem and everyone else.

Hi there, I came across this website by accident. In reading the complaints made by your readers I can totally relate, I too have waited a long time for this book to be sent/published. But these readers should know that I received my book \"Expressions\" American Poets Society, copyright 2005, just today in the mail.
