A group of people from the same community came together online and we all started writing poetry, just as a fun thing to do, then we put it together (or I did) in a pdf for others to download. Now we have found someone who is a printer and will print the book. In order to create it as a book I have to buy an ISBN number.
All the poets own the rights to their own work but who will own the book? Does anyone know?
Before i get in too deep I need to know! To buy ISBN numbers in the UK you have to be a publishing company. Not a big deal, I create a name and bang I am in business
So as the publisher who purchased the ISBN numbers do I own the book? Does that mean if Oprah called me up to have me on her show that the poets get nothing and I get all the money from books sold?
I think a couple of the writers are nervous about that but I was doing it all for fun and haven't got a clue to be honest!
I was hoping it would be more of a community thing, everyone gets to say "I'm a published poet!" and that's it but its turning into a minefield!
Would appreciate and help/advice
thanks alot

I Believe that as the purchaser of the ISBN Number that you would own the book. You may seek donations to finance the book. I have been involved in a few hardcover anthologies and electronic ones and have had to sign a contract to relinquish my rights to any royalties. The poem writers own their copyrighted works but not the book. A person I'm working with at the moment is giving each poet a free copy and is charging a fee for all other copies ordered. She is financing most of the anthology with donations and the additional books purchased. If it were my endeavor I would seek legal help to see what my options were. I hope this little bit of info has been helpful.
PS. Just sharing your work online gives you the right to say, "I'm a published poet." |

| I appreciate your comments. Sound as if it might be trickier than I first thought. |
