Great article, Rose. It certainly was heartfelt and there is much truth in your comments that far too often we wait until someone has died to honor them. Such a waste! I am one of the very fortunate ones as I have a family that expresses love and gratitude for our family freely (we also laugh a lot). We did not have a funeral for my dad, instead we had a Celebration of Life a month after his passing. That gave the family a period to get over the shock and to focus on the special memories. Many people got up to share remembrances and at the reception following the service I overheard a woman say, "I have never laughed so much at a funeral." I think that was the greatest compliment that anyone could have paid my father. Dad would have loved that he was remembered with affection and humor!! You are so right...give those you care about their accolades while they can hear and share the roses while there is beauty in the flower as well as the relationship.
